What to Wear Wednesday: Covet Fashion App Review - $1000s of Clothes in Your Closet for Free!?

Remember when Clueless came out and we all drooled over Cher's virtual closet capabilities? I still don't have anything quite like that, but guess what: the next best thing is available for free through (where else?) the iTunes store! OK, so perhaps my title for today's post was slightly deceptive. But now that I've lured you in, keep reading, because this app is Candy Crush for fashionistas. You'll be obsessed in a heartbeat. Did you see the Brooklyn Nine Nine Kwazy Kupcakes episode? Yes, that will soon be you my friend, sneakily hiding out in the bathroom or deceptively pulling out your phone in meetings.

Now, let me introduce you to your latest addiction!

Basic Concept: Shopping. And more shopping. Yes!!! (cue evil laugh) The name of the app really says it all. When you first join the app, you get a basic tutorial and an initial budget of $4000 to help you get started. Spend wisely, my friends. Initially, I was a bit hasty and just began buying pretty random items. Little did I know that each "contest" has specific requirements, and if you don't have enough funds to buy what you need, you can't enter the contest. Then, you'll spiral into a deep depression until another contest emerges.

Contests/Prizes: Each day you get a chance to score an easy $500 with the "Daily $500." If your look gets enough votes (enough to increase your score to a 4-star rating), you win the designated prize for that event, which fills it with yet another goody that you can wear in other contests. Additionally, you can enter other "Limited Time Events" such as "Flashback," "Style Master," and various outfit-specific contests. For each one you enter you automatically get $100 and a chance to win a prize. There's also the separate Jet Set Events category, where you enter destination-themed contests that earn you travel points (those give you access to the next destination) and diamonds. You can only acquire past-season items with diamonds, not cash, and some events are limited to wearing items from a specific season.

Hair/Skin/Makeup: For each contest you enter, you can choose from a variety of hairstyles, skin tones, and makeup looks. There are definitely not as many options here as with clothing, shoes, and accessories. More looks become available as your closet value increases, which gives you even more incentive to spend. It would be a brilliant idea for the app's creators to incorporate specific cosmetic brands and perhaps hair creations from well-known stylists. Hopefully they read this and listen!

Designers: One of the really great features about this app, and a genius marketing strategy, is that your clothes are real items from actual designers. There's even a tab where you can shop in "real life" for the item in your virtual closet. Designers with items featured in this app include Rachel Zoe, Rebecca Minkoff, United Nude, BCBG Max Azria, House of Harlow, me TOO, Nanette Lepore, France Luxe, J Brand, Cynthia Rowley, and Hudson.

Caveats: Once you get started, you won't want to stop. However, once you run out of cash or diamonds, your only option is to spend actual money to get more virtual dinero. If one of your Facebook friends joins, you get $1000, and there are a few options such as participating in surveys or getting insurance quotes that will deposit funds into your account. While many contests include items you'll likely already have in your closet, there are others with obscure and often pricey requirements (a particular brand, fabric, pattern, and shape).

Have you tried this app? Share your thoughts and join the discussion!

xoxo

Liz's Latest Finds - Lipstick, Self-Tanner, and Exfoliating Scrub

Monday Morsels

Oh don't worry, here's my "Monday Morsels" post on Tuesday!!

So, I stopped by Sephora this weekend. Enough said. OK, well not quite enough, because I need to tell you about my latest finds. Prepare to start spending!

YVES SAINT LAURENT ROUGE VOLUPTÉ Silky SensualRadiant Lipstick in Nude Beige $35: After seeing the gorgeous Maskcara use this lipstick in Lingerie Pink in her birthday makeup tutorial, I developed a craving to sample this luscious product. I'm sure you've heard lipsticks described as "smooth," but compared to this velvety confection, the rest might as well be sandpaper. This product literally glides onto your skin, and nude beige is the prettiest, most perfect nude/neutral lip color I've ever seen.

KARDASHIAN SUN KISSED INSTANT SUNLESS SPRAY $19.99: You can get this only at Ulta, and it's definitely worth the trip to pick up a bottle. I got mine on sale for about $12 a while ago, and I really like several things about it. You can get away without using a tanning mitt, but I recommend having one on hand. Another trick/cheat you can use to smooth out streaks or drips is to have the plain, cheap round makeup sponges on hand (I use the Up & Up brand from Target) to smooth out problem areas.

Here's what I like:

1. This product smells so much better than many self tanners. It does start to have a milder form of what I call that burnt tanning bed skin/buttered popcorn smell eventually (delicious description right?), but it's not as bad as many.
2. It has a nice, even mist when you spray it.
3. It provides an immediate dose of color that dries in about 15 minutes, it develops over the next eight hours, and it lasts about four days.
4. I can spray it on my face and it doesn't make me break out. Woo hoo!
5. It's sulfate and paraben free!
6. I love the golden, just-got-home-from-a-beach-vacation glow it gives. As with any self tanner, you need to pay close attention to areas where it can cling and appear a tad darker, and I HIGHLY recommend doing a full-body exfoliation before using it.

Here's what I don't like:
- Honestly, the only negative point is that some of the product collects around/under the cap. When I move from one area of my body to the next and stop spraying, I gently shake the can over the sink to get rid of any buildup. If you don't do that, you could end up with some random droplets of the product landing on you.

SOAP AND GLORY FLAKE AWAY BODY POLISH $25: I heard about via a few YouTube reviews, but I didn't try it until this weekend. The soft, powdery, peach/vanilla/floral smell alone had me hooked. However, I am one of the pickiest people when it comes to a sugar or salt scrub (this gem contains both, in addition to peach seed powder). I like a hearty scrub that really works at eliminating dry skin (none of that useless liquidy, grainy crap) AND leaves your skin supple and moisturized. This meets my criteria. Also, the product has enough pliability that it makes the transfer from your hand to your body with disintegrating and falling to the shower floor! This just might be the scrub that keeps me from continually searching for a better one.

Happy Shopping!!

It's Friday I'm in Love . . . Assorted Awesomeness

Hey y'all, happy weekend!

Sorry for the lack of a "Thrifty Thursday" post yesterday, but hopefully all the gems I'm sharing with you today will make up for it! There's jewelry, makeup, clothes, inspiration, and more...

If you saw my accessories post earlier this week, then you know I have a weakness for jewelry. I love these branch-like Kendra Scott bangles from The Jewelers Wife

Needing some motivation in your life? I highly, highly recommend joining the mailing list for life coach Danielle Dowling and perusing her website. When I read one of her incredible e-mails, my mind feels seriously illuminated and I have a renewed sense of energy. She's a seriously incredible woman empowering other women to realize their potential and live the best life possible!

I showcased some of my favorite nude nail looks on Tuesday, and I also discovered this incredible neutral nail polish color wheel on Pinterest. Can I please have every one of these gorgeous colors right away?!

Need a pretty hook for your keys or coat? I've been looking for one that I really like for a while, and I believe I found it Anthropologie. How gorgeous is this mirror mosaic hook? And it's only $38 (ok it's not a Target price, but for Anthro, not too shabby).

I'm always on the lookout for great new anti-aging skincare products that can improve tone and texture. The pores around my nose will be my dying obsession! I'm excited to use the new extra strength version of the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel. Have you tried these?

I hope everyone has an incredible weekend. Live it up!

What to Wear Wednesday: Spring Clothes for Your Man - Paul Fredrick Summer Collection Launch

I love a man that can pull off bright or pastel colors. Seeing a guy wearing patterned shirts, especially ones with pops of purple, pink, or yellow, really speaks confidence to me, not to mention a bold sense of style (not as over the top as Christian Bale in American Hustle, thank goodness, but his character still deserves some serious props).

Paul Fredrick's new Summer Collection launches today, and it includes some seriously stunning pieces, including gorgeous patterned shirts, seersucker suits, and ties with popping prints. Check out my favorites (including the sassy shirts above):

Talk about it Tuesday: Nude/Neutral Nails

My latest nude nail look with OPI Brazil Nail Laquer Collection in Don't Bossa Nova Me Around

Just about everyone has a Pinterest board with lots of snazzy nail looks. However, I unequivocally, absolutely, without a doubt can say that the only way any of the complicated looks will ever appear on my nails is if I take a picture to a professional and they recreate it for me. It's seriously difficult to make your nails look fantastic at home, beyond fairly basic looks. Additionally, while some "fancy" nail looks are pretty, for me there's a fine line between glam and Jerseylicious tacky.

Most of the time, I love nude or neutral nail looks. Here's why:
  • Nude nails make your fingers look longer (great for those of us with petite features), just like nude shoes enhance your legs!
  • They go with any outfit
  • You can easily spice up nude nails on your own without ending up with a Pinterest fail

Here are some of my favorite nude nail looks I've tried. All pictures are mine, not random ones from Pinterest (just proving to you I actually accomplished most of these on my own)! Also, my nails are my own (except the last picture...you'll understand why when you scroll down), with an acrylic overlay.

If you're going to attempt at-home French tips of any color, I highly recommend using painter's tape.

This definitely wasn't the best selfie tip job, but at least I tried, right? I do love black tips.

Here's a nail look NOT to try!!! Gross. I snapped this while out to dinner on a date.
